ADPH alerts Dothan-area restaurants about individual posing as health inspector

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Melanie Boggan, (334) 206-5300

The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) is alerting restaurants and the public in the Dothan area about reports involving an individual who has represented himself as a health inspector but was unable to provide identification or credentials showing that he worked for ADPH.

ADPH has received reports from more than one restaurant in the area regarding an individual who entered an establishment claiming to be a health inspector. The individual did not provide a badge or other credentials identifying him as an ADPH employee and was asked to leave.

ADPH reminds restaurant owners and employees that legitimate health inspectors should be able to identify themselves and provide identification showing that they work for ADPH when conducting an inspection.

Restaurants should not allow anyone claiming to be a health inspector behind the counter or into restricted areas unless the individual can properly identify themselves and their affiliation with ADPH.

If someone arrives at an establishment claiming to be an ADPH health inspector and refuses to provide identification showing that they work for ADPH, restaurant personnel should contact local law enforcement. Restaurants may also contact their local county health department if they have questions about an individual’s identity.

ADPH is sharing this information as a precaution so restaurants in the area can be aware of the reported activity and take appropriate steps to protect their employees, customers, and businesses.
